THE CUT-OUT
Based on a true story
The Cut-Out is my most recent novel (2014). It is also a 120-page screenplay, although my ambition for it to be made into a film has been seriously challenged over the past few years by events beyond my control. As you can see from the banner on the front cover, the book was optioned for film (even before it was completed), and at one point the production money was even in the bank and a date for principal photography set. But sadly, it didn't work out. Without wishing to sound overly dramatic, it's fair to say there are those within the corridors of power who don't want this film made. They've made their point very clearly over the past few years and they've left me in no doubt about what might happen if I persist in defying their warnings. So for now the film remains shelved.
The book, though, still sells well. Autobiographical in content, it focuses on my days as an investigative journalist, and essentially it tells the story of how I was set up as a 'cut-out' and used in a covert operation I had no idea was happening (a more detailed synopsis can be found on the My Screenplays page). Suffice to say here that the book got me in all kinds of trouble following its publication, and the very real threat of further action hangs over any attempts by me to turn the book into a film. For the record, and despite everything, The Cut-Out was a top ten Amazon bestseller in the UK and America within weeks of its release. In the right hands - courageous hands - it would still make a terrific movie.

THE EVIDENCE
Unlike The Cut-Out - which is written in the form of an autobiographical novel, and tells the human story of how I was set up and used by the intelligence services - Princess Diana: The Evidence details the results of my investigation into Diana's death—the facts. It's in-depth, revealing and explosive—one of the reasons our publisher dubbed it 'the book the British Government tried to ban'.
I should say here that, back in the 1990s, even though her face adorned the front page of every rag and mag on the high street, and on a daily basis; and even though her work on behalf of landmine victims in Bosnia and Angola had certainly caught my eye (as well as her work with victims of HIV and AIDS), the truth is I had zero interest in the world's most famous diva, much less in investigating her death. But the information I received a week before she was killed changed all that, and set me on an unscripted quest to uncover the truth.
As you can see from the front cover, I was joined in this quest by my researcher and co-author John Beveridge, and together we explored every seeming anomaly and sought explanations for every question surrounding the official verdict. And there were many—many anomalies, many questions. It should be remembered that, for the entire years-long investigation, I was, behind the scenes, dealing with the surveillance operation I now know was being perpetrated against me, and all that that entailed. It really is a wonder we ever managed to get this book finished.
But we did. It was published in 2008. And like its hardback prequel, it too became an international bestseller.

PRINCESS DIANA
THE HIDDEN EVIDENCE
Although this hardback, Princess Diana: The Hidden Evidence, and the subsequent softback, Princess Diana: The Evidence, were planned as two editions of the same book, in effect the softback became a new book in its own right—hence we dropped 'hidden' from the title to give it its own unique identity. The thing is, so much happened in the intervening years between the two publications - more and more revelations came to light, more up-to-date information surfaced - that the new softback edition had to be so drastically updated that it took on its own life. This hardback edition was published in 2001, whereas the softback didn't come out until 2008—a span of seven information-packed years. Hence the two editions ended up effectively being two completely different books.
In addition to this, my own situation was gaining a life of its own all this time and I was starting to discover, drip by drip, why I had been singled out and used in the way I had. But even though I was now gaining a fuller understanding of what had happened, and why, I was nonetheless unable to include much of that information in either of the two 'evidence' books. Even so they were both optioned for film and, very soon after the publication of this hardback, I was commissioned to write the screenplay, which was ultimately adapted into book form to create the third book of the series, The Cut-Out.
As for this hardback, despite a D-Notice and other government attempts to ban it, it too became an international bestseller.

THE UNSEEN AGENDA
I'm particularly proud of this book, not least because it was written as a result of me being headhunted by one of the UK's leading publishing houses, Hodder & Stoughton, who commissioned me to write the 'definitive history of the UFO phenomenon and its associated conspiracies and coverups'. So that's more or less what I attempted to do. Cosmic Top Secret: The Unseen Agenda was the result.
At the time Hodder came calling, I was senior editor of the country's top-selling X-Files-style magazine, UFO Reality. It was a time when The X-Files was the biggest show on TV, and as a result every major publishing house in the UK released its own X-Files-style magazine. This was a time, don't forget, when magazines counted for something—a time before the internet had reached orbit and magazines were the only real source of alternative information besides runes and midnight whispers. So when, on the back of this extraordinary X-Files explosion, plans for a new magazine were drawn up by an independent publishing company run by an friend of mine, and I was invited to become senior editor, I jumped at the chance. UFO Reality would go on to become the biggest selling X-Files-style magazine on the high street. And I would go on to win my first major book deal.
Cosmic Top Secret was published in 1998, and still sells widely on the internet today (often for silly money). Sadly, though, my deal with Hodder & Stoughton expired some years ago, so the only people making money from it these days are the online dealers and traders still flogging it. But at least people are still reading it.

THE ASCENSION CONSPIRACY 2013
Written over several years in the mid-1990s, The Ascension Conspiracy 2013 was a product of its time. It was my first novel, and although now out of print, I'm reliably informed that it's still available through various online outlets.
To give you an idea of how the story ran, here's the back sleeve blurb:
